Founder & Background

AtTheGate was founded by John Asara, a scientist who is also an owner, breeder, and trainer with experience in both the thoroughbred and standardbred racing industries. His family has spent years participating in the horse business from multiple perspectives, giving him a deep, practical understanding of what buyers and sellers need from a modern auction platform.

Having attended many of the country's major auctions as a buyer, John recognized an opportunity to create a professional, year-round marketplace that serves the industry on a daily basis—one that is transparent, efficient, and built specifically for the unique needs of thoroughbred consignors and purchasers.
